Structural and operating data from grid, wind and solar assets

Monitoring for electrical infrastructure, wind turbines and solar installations, from tower strain and tilt to equipment temperature and electrical parameters.

Overview

What TestoGauge can monitor

Energy assets combine structures, mechanical equipment and electrical systems, often across remote sites. Instrumentation helps operators follow the condition of each, using wired or wireless sensors depending on the location.

  • Electrical infrastructure: strain, tilt and loads on transmission towers and cables, equipment temperature, current and voltage, and pressure in gas and fluid systems.
  • Wind: tilt and strain in turbines and towers, vibration in turbine components, and turbine position and orientation.
  • Solar: panel temperature, forces on mounting systems, vibration of installations, and panel position and orientation.
  • Energy use: smart meters for usage data and grid management.

Data from different sites and asset types can be viewed in one platform.

Instrumentation

Relevant instrumentation

  • Strain gauges: strain in transmission towers, cables and turbine components.
  • Tiltmeters: angular change in transmission towers, substation structures, turbines and towers.
  • Load cells: forces on transmission structures, electrical equipment and solar mounting systems.
  • Vibration sensors: vibration in turbines, transformers and solar mounting systems.
  • Temperature sensors and thermistors: temperature of electrical equipment and solar panels.
  • Current and voltage sensors: electrical parameters and voltage fluctuations.
  • Pressure transducers and overpressure sensors: pressure in gas and fluid systems.
  • Flow meters: flow of fuel or fluids within energy systems.
  • GNSS sensors: position and orientation of turbines, panels and grid equipment.
  • Environmental sensors: temperature, wind and humidity for context.
  • Smart meters: energy usage data and grid-management monitoring.
Monitoring workflow

From the sensor to engineering review

  1. 01

    Instrument

Sensors selected for each asset type: towers and substations, turbines, or solar arrays.

  2. 02

    Connect

Supported instruments can use wired or wireless configurations, depending on the instrument, monitoring requirements and site conditions.

  3. 03

    Review & alert

Structural, mechanical and electrical readings are visualized together, with configurable thresholds per channel.

  4. 04

    Digital twin

Sensor and environmental data can be incorporated into digital-twin views to help teams review asset conditions and changes over time.

FAQ

Questions about energy monitoring

Which energy assets can be monitored?
The instrumentation covers electrical infrastructure such as transmission towers and substations, wind turbines and towers, and solar installations.
Are wireless sensors available?
Wireless vibration, temperature, pressure and strain sensors suit remote or expansive sites where wiring would be impractical.
What does the digital twin add?
Sensor and environmental data can be shown in digital-twin views to help teams review asset conditions and changes over time. These views support, but do not replace, engineering analysis.
